Between The Buried and Me - 'The Great Misdirect'

Review by Anthony Avina

'The Great Misdirect', took flight in October 2009. With a unique blend of heavy metal, alternative undertones, and musical genius, this band is a must listen for all fans of heavy metal.

The band formed in early 2001 and found success early on. The latest album marks the bands fifth studio album, among a cover album and live DVD. The band includes Tommy Rogers on vocals/keyboards, Paul Waggoner on guitar, Dustie Waring on guitar, Blake Richardson on drums/percussion, and Dan Briggs on bass guitar. With a sound similar to the bands' wide arrary of influences including Metallica, Soundgarden, Pantera and Queen(just to name a few), it is easy to see why the band has enjoyed such widespread success.

The album includes many lengthy tracks that seem to tell a story all its own, including 'Obfuscation' and 'Swim to the Moon'. It is easy to picture these tracks in action packed, sci-fi or horror movies, and listening to each song is like watching a movie in your mind; each scene a lyric or verse in the song. With unbelievable guitar riffs, precise drumming, and vocals that capture both the metal side and melodic features of music, we here at Rock on Request magazine recommend all rock fans pick up their copy of 'The Great Misdirect' today.
